POLICE have detained an elderly man who allegedly threatened and hurled verbal abuse at a doctor at the Emergency Department of Hospital Ampang on Tuesday, following his dissatisfaction over a missed clinic appointment.

Ampang Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail, said the incident occurred at approximately 1.15pm, while the 30-year-old doctor was stationed at the hospital’s triage counter.

"The 61-year-old suspect became verbally aggressive and attempted to lunge at the complainant, aiming to strike the doctor's face after becoming upset that he had missed his original clinic appointment and was given a new date," said Mohd Azam in a statement issued on Sunday.

Following a report, officers from the Ampang Jaya District Police Headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Division tracked and arrested the suspect in the Cheras area at around 2.20pm on Wednesday.

The case is currently under investigation, and police have yet to confirm whether the suspect will face charges. - August 17, 2025
