Previous proceedings and charge details

At his first court appearance in June, Naim — whose full name is Muhammad Na’im Daniel Baharin — pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The 28-year-old, known for his hit song Sumpah and his role in the television drama Projek: High Council, is accused of committing physical sexual assault against a 17-year-and-seven-month-old girl at approximately 8.56pm on 19 May at a hotel in Petaling Jaya.

The charge was filed under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Izzah Shaharuddin previously proposed bail be set at RM15,000 with one surety, along with conditions requiring Naim to surrender his passport and refrain from contacting the victim or prosecution witnesses.

The court, however, allowed bail at RM12,000 with one surety, and imposed the additional conditions.

Previously, Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed that the charge was brought following instructions from the Selangor Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Reports earlier suggested that the 17-year-old girl had met Naim roughly two months before the alleged incident and that it was her first time being brought to a hotel by the accused. This information was said to have emerged during police questioning.

Naim was initially detained on 3 June in connection with the case but was later released on police bail after providing a statement. - August 18, 2025
