PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) has not ruled out the possibility of forming an alliance with Parti Warisan (Warisan) in preparation for the upcoming Sabah state election (PRN), with senior party leaders suggesting that such cooperation could emerge amid Malaysia's fluid political landscape.

“It is not impossible,” said PN Chief Whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan when asked about the prospect of collaborating with Warisan. “PN will contest under the coalition’s banner. We will not go solo, as solo parties are no longer relevant in today’s political environment. That is why even smaller parties are joining alliances.”

He added, “Although nothing is confirmed yet, the possibility of working with Warisan remains because in politics, anything can happen—especially when the dissolution date for the Sabah state assembly has yet to be announced.”

Takiyuddin was speaking at a press conference after officiating the Batik Run 2025 at Dataran Muhammadi in Kota Bharu on Saturday.

Commenting on PAS's readiness for the state election, the party's secretary-general said Sabah’s PAS leadership has been instructed to identify potential candidates. However, he emphasised that final decisions will rest with the party’s central leadership.

“The state chapter will nominate names, but PAS Central will evaluate and select the most suitable candidates based on grassroots input,” he said.

Takiyuddin added that seat negotiations are still ongoing, with no confirmation on how many seats PN or PAS will contest in Sabah, stating that it “depends on the strength of each party in the state.”

He acknowledged that PAS has never won a seat in Sabah but remained optimistic about the party's prospects in the upcoming polls.

“If we manage to win even one seat, it will be considered a 100 per cent success. As of now, we only have one appointed assemblyman in Sabah, who is also the state PAS commissioner,” he said. - August 23, 2025
