MALAYSIA is set to reaffirm its commitment to sustainable energy leadership at the upcoming 15th APEC Energy Ministers’ Meeting (APEC EMM15), with Deputy Prime Minister II and Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, scheduled to lead the national delegation in Busan, Republic of Korea, from 27 to 28 August.

As APEC’s foremost ministerial platform on energy cooperation, APEC EMM15 will gather more than 100 participants, including energy ministers, senior policymakers and private sector leaders, to deliberate on energy strategies under the theme “Accelerating Sustainable, Affordable, Reliable, Secure and Innovative Energy for a Prosperous Future”.

The meeting will conclude with the adoption of a Joint Ministerial Statement.

Fadillah will highlight Malaysia’s long-term vision to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, guided by the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) and the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030.

He will also underscore Malaysia’s ambition to be a key partner in regional energy security and a destination for high-value green investment, Petra said in a statement on Sunday.

Beyond APEC EMM15, the Deputy Prime Minister will engage in multilateral forums including the 16th Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM16), the 10th Mission Innovation Ministerial (MI-10), and the 2025 World Climate Industry EXPO (WCE), reflecting Malaysia’s active role in the global clean energy transition.

Bilateral meetings are also planned with energy leaders from the Republic of Korea, Hong Kong China, New Zealand, and Brunei Darussalam, aimed at deepening cooperation across various aspects of energy transition and innovation.

In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister will undertake site visits to the Saeul Nuclear Power Plant operated by Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP), and Doosan Enerbility, to explore collaboration in nuclear energy operations, technology transfer, and capacity building. The official itinerary will conclude with a working visit to the Gangbyeon Wastewater Treatment Plant in Busan.

Malaysia’s participation in these regional dialogues supports its commitment to the Malaysia MADANI vision, which promotes a people-centric approach to governance, founded on sustainability, innovation, and inclusive national development. - August 24, 2025
