A WEAK earthquake measuring 2.7 on the Richter scale struck the town of Segamat at 7.29am on Saturday, marking the latest in a series of minor tremors affecting the district this week.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reported that the quake was centred at coordinates 2.5° North and 102.8° East, approximately 2 kilometres northwest of Segamat, at a depth of 10 kilometres.
While the tremor may have been felt in areas around Segamat, no damage has been reported.
“MetMalaysia will continue to monitor the situation closely,” the department said in a brief statement.
This follows a smaller tremor felt in Johor early Friday morning at 4.24am. That seismic event, also centred near Segamat, occurred at coordinates 2.7° North and 102.9° East, roughly 22 kilometres northeast of the town. - August 30, 2025
