Police are actively tracking down two suspects believed to have been involved in a pre-dawn explosion targeting a row of business premises in Panorama Lapangan Perdana here on Sunday.

The blast, which occurred around 4.58am, caused damage to two adjoining shoplots, though no injuries or fatalities were reported.

Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, said a 43-year-old woman had lodged a report upon discovering the damage.

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the scene showed two men arriving on a motorcycle and placing an object, believed to be an explosive device, in front of the premises before fleeing.

Initial findings from the Post Blast Investigation Unit and the Weapons Unit of the Perak Police Headquarters confirmed the device used was a low-grade explosive.

“The blast damaged the roller shutter door and the front floor area of the targeted premises, while a neighbouring shop sustained minor damage to its signboard and wall,” said Abang Zainal, as reported by Berita Harian.

He added that the device used was a “low explosive pyrotechnic flash bang grenade stun” — a non-lethal sensory weapon designed to intimidate and cause property damage, rather than to injure or kill.

The case is being investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire or explosive substance, and Section 6 of the Explosives Act 1957. - Sept 1, 2025
