Bung Moktar denies orchestrating RM150 million investment, labels allegations 'malicious'

KINABATANGAN MP Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin has dismissed as "malicious speculation" the suggestion that he played an active role in facilitating a RM150 million investment by Felcra in Public Mutual unit trusts for personal gain.

Testifying in his defence before the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Thursday, the UMNO Supreme Council member denied allegations that he had acted outside his official duties as Felcra’s non-executive chairman, or that he had secured the investment to benefit himself and his wife, Datin Seri Zizie Izette A Samad.

“The notion that I ensured the success of the investment is entirely untrue and a malicious assumption,” Bung Moktar told the court.

The trial involves three corruption charges against Bung Moktar and a related abetment charge against Zizie Izette, all linked to Felcra’s RM150 million investment in Public Mutual unit trusts.

During cross-examination, Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Fadhly Mohd Zamry put it to the accused that the investment actions fell outside his official remit and were taken without written approval from Felcra’s board of directors. Bung Moktar disagreed.

“I do not agree,” he said when asked whether the investment could not have gone ahead without his involvement.

To further prosecution suggestions that the moves were intended to serve his and his wife’s financial interests, Bung Moktar responded, “That is not true.”

When it was alleged that he was fully aware of potential personal gains if the investment succeeded, he firmly denied the claim, stating, “That is not true — it is an excessive assumption.”

The prosecution also suggested that Bung Moktar had used his influence and position at Felcra to ensure the investment’s approval so that RM2.8 million could be received by both him and his wife. No response to that specific allegation was recorded during the session.

The trial continues. - Sept 4, 2025
