THE multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) involved in the fatal accident involving five students of the Institut Kemahiran MARA (IKM) Kota Kinabalu, Sabah in Tuaran yesterday was found to be speeding.
This was before the vehicle lost control and entered the opposite lane and crashed into a lorry carrying a load of stones.
Tuaran District Police Chief, Superintendent Noraidin Ag Maidin in a statement said that this was detected during their initial investigations.
He said that all the victims who were trapped in the vehicle were removed by members of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Tuaran, before the bodies were taken to the Tuaran Hospital for a post-mortem.
He said that the investigation was being conducted in accordance with Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Police has recorded the statements of several individuals to assist in the investigation.
