A 61-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested in connection with threats made against a forensic pathologist involved in the high-profile case of Zara Qairina Mahathir, Sabah police confirmed on Sunday.

The suspect, who allegedly used the Facebook account under the name ‘Amung Kamaruddin’, was detained by police at approximately 7am in the compound of the Semporna District Police Headquarters.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said the threats were directed at Dr Jessie Hiu, a pathologist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital I (HQEI) in Kota Kinabalu.

“The police have arrested a local man suspected of involvement in this case, and a mobile phone was seized during the arrest,” said Jauteh in a statement.

“A check on the device confirmed that the suspect is the owner of the ‘Amung Kamaruddin’ Facebook account, which was used to post threatening remarks against the pathologist.”

Jauteh urged the public to exercise caution and responsibility when using social media platforms, especially when making statements that could incite fear or disrupt public order.

“The public is advised to always be mindful and think carefully before sharing or uploading any content on social media, in accordance with legal principles and to preserve societal harmony,” he said.

He added that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) treats all forms of social media misuse seriously and will take firm action against individuals who violate the law. - Sept 7, 2025
