THE Selangor state government has categorically refuted accusations that more than 200 religious schools have been ordered to leave commercial buildings, affecting an estimated 40,000 students.

“This is a baseless and malicious claim,” said Selangor Executive Councillor for Islamic Affairs and Innovation Culture, Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah. “The video being circulated is an old clip from 2023, recycled to spread misinformation.”

Dr Fahmi added that no directive has been issued to close any *sekolah agama rakyat* in the state. Instead, the government is currently reviewing safety guidelines to ensure the wellbeing of students and teachers in such schools.

A formal complaint has been lodged with the Ministry of Communications regarding a TikTok account responsible for spreading the video.

Earlier, a coalition of Islamic NGOs in Selangor alleged during a press conference that over 200 religious schools had received eviction notices and fines, and claimed the issue was linked to a minister from the Democratic Action Party (DAP) at the Ministry of Local Government Development. - Sept 8, 2025
