SELANGOR police have identified a suspect in connection with the unauthorised withdrawal of RM46,000 from the bank accounts of a 70-year-old woman in Rawang earlier this month.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the victim, who resides in Pahang, was taken to Rawang by the suspect for the purpose of making the withdrawals at two separate banks.

“The suspect is believed to have manipulated the elderly woman by falsely claiming they were assisting her in obtaining government aid,” he said during a press conference today.

“We have identified the suspect and efforts are underway to locate them. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.”

Earlier, media reports revealed that the woman had been reported missing on 3 September and was later found safe in Rawang the following day.

Pahang Police Chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman previously stated that the suspect had convinced the woman to bring along her bank book and related documents before transporting her from Bentong to Rawang.

She was eventually found by her daughter, unharmed, but all the money in her bank account had been withdrawn. - September 11, 2025
