A 15-YEAR-OLD girl and three young men, including a diploma student, were charged in the Sessions Court in George Town today with committing group robbery at a rented condominium unit in Jelutong last week.
The four Malaysians—Abdul Hakim Mohd Amin, 22; Muhammad Loqman Nasri, 22; Muhammad Amsyar Md Asraf, 20; and the underage female who is no longer attending school—pleaded not guilty before Judge Juraidah Abbas and requested to be tried.
According to the charge sheet, the group is accused of robbing a 21-year-old man at approximately 12.30am on 5 September. The alleged robbery involved the forcible taking of an iPhone 13 Pro Max and a total of RM582—comprising RM100 in cash and RM482 transferred via the victim’s Touch ‘n Go e-wallet.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Puteri Nor Nadia Mohamed Iqbal charged the accused under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which carries a sentence of up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.
During the proceedings, the prosecution offered bail of RM8,000 for each accused, with one surety.
However, all four defendants appealed for a lower bail amount, citing personal and family financial hardships.
The teenage girl informed the court that her mother was unable to afford the proposed bail. Abdul Hakim stated that he was unemployed.
Muhammad Loqman, who works as a lorry driver, told the court he was the sole provider for his wife, a housewife, their two-year-old child, and his elderly parents.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Amsyar explained he was pursuing a diploma and had six siblings, with his father no longer employed and separated from his mother.
Before concluding the bail hearing, Muhammad Loqman interjected emotionally, claiming the group had been wrongfully accused.
"We are being framed, madam. We didn’t actually commit the robbery," he told the court.
Judge Juraidah advised him to refrain from making such statements during the bail application stage, and reminded all the accused of their right to legal representation.
She encouraged them to seek assistance from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) for their upcoming trial.
The court eventually granted bail of RM4,000 for each accused, with one surety, and imposed a condition prohibiting them from contacting prosecution witnesses.
The case is scheduled for mention on 17 October, during which documents will be submitted and counsel appointed. - September 12, 2025
