THE father of two young boys who drowned after the car they were in rolled into Sungai Linggi broke down in tears in the Sessions Court today as he pleaded for bail to allow him to visit his children’s graves.
Abdul Rahman Mahmud, 46, who was unrepresented in court, had earlier pleaded not guilty before Judge Datin Surita Budin to a charge of causing bodily harm likely to result in death, in connection with the deaths of his sons, aged six and eight.
The incident is alleged to have occurred at approximately 11.45am on 4 September at the mouth of Sungai Linggi, near Tanjung Agas, Port Dickson.
He is charged under Section 304(a) of the Penal Code for causing death by negligence not amounting to murder, which carries a maximum sentence of 30 years' imprisonment and a possible fine upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor M Pusppa opposed bail, citing concerns that the accused might abscond, thereby complicating the prosecution’s case.
She also requested a new mention date to allow time for forensic, chemical, and vehicle inspection reports from PUSPAKOM to be completed.
During his emotional plea, Abdul Rahman asked the court to consider granting him bail so he could visit his sons’ final resting place.
"I beg the court—since my children died, I have not been able to visit their graves. I only hope for bail, that is all I ask," he said, visibly distraught and on the verge of tears.
However, the court denied bail and set 10 November for the next mention date, during which prosecution documents will be submitted and legal representation arranged.
Previously, media reports stated that the two brothers drowned when the car they were in—alongside their father and a woman—plunged into the river.
At the time of the incident, it is believed the vehicle had been parked on the riverbank with the engine off, while the father had stepped out briefly for a cigarette. - September 12, 2025
