AN unemployed man appeared in the Kuala Lumpur Magistrates’ Court on Friday to face a charge of murdering his father in the early hours of 13 September.

Iznan Syahir Mohammad Tasnim, 25, dressed in a purple kurta, nodded to indicate he understood the charge when it was read before Magistrate S Arunjothy.

However, no plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

According to the charge, Iznan is accused of murdering his 62-year-old father, Mohammad Tasnim Nurdin, at a residential unit in Bandar Seri Permaisuri at 3.01am on Saturday.

The offence is framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death penalty, or imprisonment for life or a fixed term upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nadia Eleena Jamaluddin Akbal led the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented. Bail was not granted, and the court has fixed 11 December for case mention.

Earlier reports suggest the fatal incident stemmed from dissatisfaction over a property dispute.

Cheras Deputy Police Chief, Superintendent Ridzuan Khalid, said the victim was found lying motionless in the living room of his flat with stab wounds. The body was later sent to the Forensic Unit at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM) Cheras for a post-mortem.

The suspect, who is the victim’s son, was arrested shortly after the incident and remanded for seven days to assist with investigations. - September 19, 2025
