RAPID Bus Sdn Bhd has confirmed full cooperation with police investigations into a fatal accident involving one of its on-demand Rapid KL vans and a pedestrian in Kuchai Lama, Kuala Lumpur.

The incident, which occurred on 14 September at approximately 12:30pm, claimed the life of a 26-year-old woman who was crossing the road near a three-way junction after stepping out to order food.

According to eyewitnesses, the van allegedly struck the victim and dragged her nearly 10 metres, resulting in severe head injuries that killed her instantly.

“We understand the public’s concern following this tragic incident and extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to the family of the victim,” Rapid Bus said in a statement issued today.

The company has confirmed that the driver involved has been suspended with immediate effect pending the outcome of investigations.

“Safety of all road users and the general public remains our utmost priority. We are currently reviewing our internal operating procedures to ensure that a higher standard of safety is consistently maintained across all services,” the statement continued.

Rapid Bus also urged the public to allow space for investigations to proceed, while expressing appreciation for public feedback and concern.

The victim's father, identified only by his surname Wen, has vowed to hold the company accountable.

He said earlier that he would seek an explanation from Rapid KL after completing his daughter's funeral arrangements. “After I finish handling my daughter’s funeral, I will approach Rapid KL to demand an explanation,” he said.

The funeral took place on 17 September in Shah Alam, attended by close family and friends.

Eyewitnesses told reporters that members of the public had shouted at the driver to stop following the impact, but the van allegedly continued moving briefly before coming to a halt.

Police are investigating the incident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which pertains to reckless or dangerous driving causing death. - September 19, 2025
