WARISAN president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal confirmed that he had received a show-cause notice from the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) over remarks he made at Batu Sapi, where he allegedly described the death of Zara Qairina Mahathir as “murder.”
The notice gives him seven days to reply, which he said would be handled by his legal team.
“I have given it to my lawyer and everything is there. Don’t worry. We want to make sure everything is right. I don’t want to talk about it,” Shafie told reporters in Kota Kinabalu.
Millions spent on social media attacks
Shafie also accused the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) – Pakatan Harapan (PH) government of spending lavishly on online propaganda campaigns instead of solving bread-and-butter issues such as water, electricity and roads.
“They spent RM2 million last year. This year, you know how many million. RM8.7 million. Where did the money go? Social media. Eight million. Budget,” he said.
“We don’t have money to pay TikTok or social media, but those who answer are the people at large, netizens who sometimes defend us. I’m happy because people themselves can see what is going on.”
Chinese DCM post promise ‘just bait’
The Warisan president also took aim at Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor’s pledge to appoint a Chinese deputy chief minister only after the next state election.
“When Warisan was the government, we appointed a Bajau as Chief Minister. His deputy was a Chinese, a Kadazan-Dusun. Another deputy was Bajau.
“The current Chief Minister can promise to appoint one, so appoint now. You are the Chief Minister today. Why wait until after the election?” Shafie said.
Shafie was referring to Datuk Christina Liew (Chinese), Datuk Seri Madius Tangau and Datuk Jaujan Sambakong who served as deputy chief ministers during his administration between 2018 and 2020.
He described such pledges as “bait politics,” warning voters not to be swayed by promises tied to election cycles.
Edna Majimbun joins Warisan
At the same event, Shafie welcomed Edna Majimbun, daughter of former Sepanggar MP and ex–Deputy Speaker of Parliament Datuk Eric Majimbun, as Warisan’s newest member.
“She is willing to give it all up even though she has a position in government and to look at the future of Sabah and the people here.
“I knew her father. The Majimbuns is a good family. And we feel this will enable us to show our effort to unite the multiracial society in Sabah.”
Edna, 47, currently serving as Kota Kinabalu native chief, said it was her first time joining a political party.
“I feel that it is time for Sabahans to unite. And I feel that Parti Warisan is the only party that can unite us,” she said.
“For now, I will not share anything about [my father’s views. I am old enough to decide on my own.”
When asked if Edna would contest the Inanam seat, currently held by PKR’s Datuk Peto Galim, Shafie remained coy.
“The time will come, not to announce now. If we announce tomorrow one person, oh, they will buy. That’s what happened to my government. Those who left now because of corruption, that is the cause,” she said. - September 24, 2025
