A NINE-year-old boy has died after falling into an uncovered sewage pit at a school in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan during a sports event on Thursday morning.

Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the Nilai District Police Headquarters received a report on the incident around 11am.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that at approximately 9.20am, the victim was seen by members of the public falling into an uncovered sewage outlet during the school's athletics championship,” Bernama reported him saying in a statement.

Emergency responders from the Fire and Rescue Department arrived at the scene and managed to retrieve the boy, who was then rushed to Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital in Seremban. He was pronounced dead during treatment.

A post-mortem was later conducted at Rembau Hospital to determine the exact cause of death. Police confirmed that, based on early findings, the tragedy was the result of an accident with no signs of foul play.

Datuk Alzafny urged the public not to speculate or spread misinformation, as investigations are still ongoing.

The incident has raised serious concerns over safety standards in public school facilities, particularly during large-scale events involving children. - September 27, 2025
