POLICE have confirmed that there was bullying in the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old schoolgirl by a 14-year-old male student at a secondary school in Bandar Utama.

The attack occurred around 9.10am today in the girls’ toilet, where the victim sustained multiple stab wounds. According to police, the incident was discovered when a teacher heard screams and rushed to the scene.

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat said that investigations are ongoing and all possible motives remain under review.

“So far, initial police investigations confirm there is no element of bullying,” he told reporters outside the school.

“However, further questioning will be conducted if new elements arise.

The investigating officer is still at the school, and I cannot yet confirm how many more statements will be taken.”

The suspect, a Form Two student, was detained at the scene shortly after the incident.

Two sharp weapons believed to have been used in the attack were seized.

“We recovered two sharp objects that we believe were used in the incident. There are several stab wounds on the victim’s body, but we will confirm the exact cause of death following the post-mortem,” said Shamsudin.

The victim, a Form Four student, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was transported to the Forensic Unit at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) for a post-mortem.

The suspect is currently in police custody and will be remanded pending further investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

“No other students were harmed in the incident. This case involves only the suspect and the deceased. We will apply for a remand order tomorrow,” Shamsudin added.

Earlier reports indicated that the school had been placed under heightened security as investigators worked to establish the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy. - October 14, 2025
