A TOTAL of 756 sixth form students from Kolej Tingkatan Enam Kota Kinabalu participated in the Safe Internet Campaign (Kempen Internet Selamat or KIS) today, a government-led initiative aimed at strengthening cyber safety awareness and promoting responsible online behaviour among young Malaysians.
The event, held at Dewan Citra of the college, was officiated by Minister of Communications, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, and is part of the ongoing campaign spearheaded by the Ministry of Communications through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
The KIS programme addresses key contemporary digital threats, including online scams, cyberbullying, data privacy breaches and the spread of fake news. Using an interactive approach, students were guided on how to identify cyber risks, recognise manipulation tactics used in fraud, and verify information before sharing it online.
Students were also reminded of the importance of exercising caution on social media by avoiding the oversharing of personal data to reduce vulnerability to identity theft and digital exploitation.
“Kempen Internet Selamat is a reflection of MCMC’s commitment to fostering a digitally literate, ethical and secure society,” said a statement from the Commission’s Corporate Communications department. The campaign is currently being expanded to educational institutions across Sabah.
As of October 2025, the campaign has reached 4,734 educational institutions nationwide, including 434 schools and colleges in Sabah alone.
Also in attendance were the Ministry’s Secretary-General, Dato’ Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa; MCMC Deputy Chief Operating Officer (Regulatory and Corporate), Datuk Zurkarnain Mohd Yasin; and the principal of the college, Suhaibul Kassim. - October 16, 2025
