PARTI Bersatu Sabah (PBS) has described the recent corruption allegations targeting its senior leadership as a deliberate attempt by certain parties to disrupt the political momentum ahead of Sabah’s 17th State Election, set for 29 November.
PBS Information Chief, Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, made the remarks in response to two videos that went viral in recent days, purportedly involving the party’s Acting President Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam and Deputy President Datuk Seri Jahid Jahim in conversations with an individual who claimed to have paid bribes linked to mining licences.
“Both of our comrades, Datuk Dr Joachim Gunsalam and Datuk Seri Jahid Jahim, have offered their clarifications on the matter, and I believe our leaders at all levels, along with members and supporters, will continue to stand united in our cause,” said Joniston during a community engagement session in Kampung Bambangan Lama yesterday.
He urged party members to remain focused and not be swayed by what he described as politically motivated allegations intended to undermine PBS’s leadership.
“We consider this (corruption allegation) a politically driven agenda aimed at weakening the party, and we must not be distracted,” he said.
Joniston, who is also the incumbent Assemblyman for Kiulu, reaffirmed PBS’s commitment to accountability, honesty, and transparency as guiding values in its political journey.
“Even though certain quarters are attempting to turn this into political ammunition, PBS will remain focused on what truly matters—serving the people and earning their trust,” he said.
He emphasised that public confidence is earned through action, and the party remains committed to demonstrating integrity, service, and accountability.
“PBS takes the people’s trust seriously. We believe confidence is built through consistent action, and we will continue proving ourselves through our integrity and service to the community,” he added.
He said PBS will persist in championing the welfare of the people, ensuring equitable development and opportunities across all regions in Sabah through the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) administration.
“We believe the people will judge GRS based on its proven track record, not on baseless accusations spread by the opposition.
“Facts and figures don’t lie… under GRS, Sabah has recorded its highest revenue, which clearly reflects responsible governance,” Joniston stated. - October 21, 2025
