THE government has affirmed its commitment to ensuring no village is left behind in the nation’s development, pledging the provision of essential infrastructure such as roads to connect remote communities.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi emphasised that infrastructure is vital to the country’s progress and serves as the lifeblood of the people’s economy.
“The infrastructure provided is also the heartbeat of every segment of society — from students travelling to school, farmers going to their fields, to workers commuting to their jobs,” he said during the official opening of the new road and bridge connecting Kampung Labu, Jerantut, to Kampung Mela.
The 15-kilometre road, constructed at a cost of RM157 million, shortens the journey between the two locations from 60 kilometres to just 17 kilometres. Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development, stated that government-built infrastructure goes beyond mere connectivity.
“Each infrastructure project is planned and implemented to support economic activities, tourism, agriculture, and entrepreneurship,” he explained.
“Facilities like the newly inaugurated road will open new opportunities, especially for the younger generation, enabling them to build their futures in their hometowns.”
He highlighted the road’s strategic potential, noting it could become a major tourism corridor in Pahang by linking key destinations such as Taman Negara, Kuala Tahan, Jerantut, Cameron Highlands, Kuala Lipis, Genting Highlands, and Bentong.
“This route will serve as a strategic link to introduce the natural beauty and culture of Pahang to the world,” he said.
Despite facing global economic pressures, Ahmad Zahid assured that the government remains steadfast in prioritising the welfare of the people.
“The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development is tasked with enhancing wellbeing in rural areas and will continue strengthening infrastructure for public benefit,” he added.
He revealed that the ministry’s allocation in Budget 2026 has increased by RM440 million to RM12.4 billion, with RM7.78 billion dedicated to development projects such as roads, electricity, water supply, telecommunications, and social amenities to serve 8.1 million rural residents.
“The government’s commitment is unwavering to ensure every family in the villages enjoys a better, prosperous, and dignified life,” Ahmad Zahid said. - October 23, 2025
