MALAYSIA’S support for the United Nations (UN) resolution on the two-state solution between Palestine and Israel has not hindered the country’s trade and investment relations with its key economic partners, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said.
He stressed that Malaysia’s stance does not indicate any direct threat to national security at this stage.
“While some of our trading partners may hold differing views, Malaysia remains committed to maintaining economic and investment cooperation for mutual benefit, regional stability and the well-being of the people,” he said.
Mohamad said the ministry, together with national security agencies, continues to closely monitor and remain vigilant against potential external risks such as cyberattacks, propaganda, or efforts by certain parties to destabilise the country.
“To this end, preventive measures — including strengthening cybersecurity and enhancing defence and security cooperation with friendly nations — are being intensified to ensure the nation’s stability and safety,” he added.
Citing data from the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Mohamad noted that there is no official record of additional tariffs, trade restrictions or specific economic measures imposed on Malaysia due to its position on the issue.
“In fact, export and import data show that Malaysia’s trade with its major partners — including the United States and several European countries with close ties to Israel — has remained stable between 2020 and 2024.
“This positive trend continues even as Malaysia has become more vocal on the Palestinian issue, particularly following the conflicts in Gaza in 2021 and 2023,” he said in a written reply published on Parliament’s website.
He was responding to a question from Datuk Seri Hasni Mohamad (BN–Simpang Renggam) regarding the security and economic implications of Malaysia’s support for the UN resolution on the two-state solution.
Mohamad emphasised that Malaysia’s firm stance on Palestine has in fact enhanced the country’s international credibility and opened new avenues for cooperation in energy trade, halal investment, food industries and technology, strengthening Malaysia’s strategic and economic interests.
He added that Malaysia consistently upholds the principles of global peace, humanity and justice, and has repeatedly expressed its support for the Palestinian struggle through official statements at the UN, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), ASEAN, the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), G20, BRICS and other international platforms.
“Malaysia and Palestine recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Trade and Economic Cooperation to strengthen bilateral relations between the two nations, laying the foundation for deeper collaboration in various sectors.
“This includes trade, investment and economic development, contributing to shared aspirations for progress through solidarity and prosperity,” he said.
Mohamad, who is also the Member of Parliament for Rembau, reiterated that the government will continue to closely monitor developments and take proactive measures to safeguard national security, sustain economic growth and maintain healthy trade relations with key partners. - October 24, 2025
