MALAYSIA marked the conclusion of its ASEAN Chairmanship on the final day of the 47th ASEAN Summit, hosting several bilateral meetings and chairing major summits aimed at strengthening regional economic ties, sustainability initiatives, and diplomatic cooperation.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim presided over the 28th ASEAN–China Summit, the ASEAN–New Zealand Commemorative Summit, and the 5th ASEAN–Australia Summit, underscoring Malaysia’s active role in fostering regional dialogue.
Senior Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, Tunku Nashrul Abaidah, highlighted that the summit also focused on bolstering economic, trade, and sustainable development cooperation, culminating in the official closing ceremony and the handover of ASEAN Chairmanship to the Philippines.
“Among the highlights is the ASEAN–China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA) 3.0, which will strengthen regional economic relations.
“The summit today will conclude with the official closing ceremony and the handover of ASEAN chairmanship to the Philippines,” he said during a live briefing on the Prime Minister’s Facebook page.
He added that Malaysia, under the theme "Inclusivity and Sustainability," has demonstrated that ASEAN remains not only relevant but a key player in shaping a stable, prosperous, and equitable Indo-Pacific region.
“Through the success of the 47th ASEAN Summit, Malaysia has fulfilled its mandate as ASEAN chair with excellence. We have shown that under the theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability,' ASEAN not only remains relevant but continues to be a key player in shaping a stable, prosperous, and equitable Indo-Pacific region,” Tunku Nashrul said.
The summit also witnessed Prime Minister Anwar pushing for the recognition of Palestine and welcoming the 2026–2030 action plan to strengthen regional cooperation. Economic agendas dominated several sessions, including the ASEAN+3 Summit and the 5th Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Summit, which focused on digital economy, clean energy, and resilient supply chains to ensure inclusive growth across the Asia-Pacific.
At the ASEAN–United Nations Summit, Malaysia commended the UN for its efforts in advancing the peace process in Palestine and reaffirmed its continued support for these initiatives. - October 28, 2025
