PERLIS Chief Minister Mohd Shukri Ramli has expressed confidence that the appointment of Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim as the new chairman of Perikatan Nasional (PN) in Perlis will bolster the coalition’s unity and secure its continued administration of the state after the upcoming 16th General Election.
Mohd Shukri was one of two state PN chairmen removed during a Supreme Council meeting chaired by PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
In a Facebook post, Mohd Shukri described the appointment of Shahidan, who is the Member of Parliament for Arau and former Umno Perlis liaison chief, as a positive step to strengthen PN’s cohesion and influence in Perlis.
“My heartfelt congratulations to Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim on his appointment as the new PN Perlis chairman. I hope this appointment will allow him to continue leading and reinforcing PN’s unity and strength in the state, ensuring PN’s administration remains in power and achieves success in the 16th General Election,” he said today.
The reshuffle also saw Mohd Shukri, former Pas Perlis commissioner and head of Bersatu Pahang, removed from his post and his position being taken over by Pas Deputy President, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
Analysts suggest Mohd Shukri’s removal reflects grassroots rejection within Pas divisions, as well as his failure to secure a place among the 18 elected members of the Pas Central Committee for 2025–2027, while Shahidan ranked 14th and gained a seat through election.
Mohd Shukri, however, was appointed to the committee by Pas President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.
