THE Malaysian man was shot dead in front of his wife at their home in Golok, southern Thailand, on Friday evening in what is believed to be a targeted attack by an assailant known to the couple.

The victim, identified as 33-year-old Mohd Fuad Fahmie Ghazali, was struck by as many as eight bullets, including to his chest, and died from his injuries at around 9pm local time.

His mother, Zaiton Abdul Rahman, 64, said she was informed of the shooting by her daughter-in-law, Wan Fatihah Mat Husin, 35, who called her in tears.

“Last night, my daughter-in-law phoned me crying, saying that Fuad Fahmie had been shot in front of her by someone they knew,” Zaiton told Harian Metro at her home in Kampung Kepas Apam, Pasir Mas.

“I was frozen when I heard the news. She said he had been shot about eight times, including in the chest. When she arrived at the hospital, doctors said his condition was critical and he could not be saved because the bullets had struck vital organs. He was pronounced dead around 9pm,” she said.

According to Zaiton, the assailant was a man known to both her son and daughter-in-law.

“The incident happened at my son’s house in Golok when the man came and opened fire at him. A few months ago, someone believed to be the same person had fired warning shots at their house,” she said.

She added that the attacker had harboured resentment toward her son over a financial matter.

“My son told me about the man’s dissatisfaction. Some people said it was about debt, but that’s not true. In fact, the man had cheated my daughter-in-law out of RM2,000, but my son had already forgiven him. Still, the issue didn’t end there,” she said.

Fuad Fahmie and his wife reportedly ran an online business selling bags and gemstones.

Thai police are investigating the case. Local media earlier reported that a Malaysian man had been critically injured in a shooting at a house in Golok around 6.40pm and died later that night. - November 2, 2025
