KERETAPI Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) has confirmed that a six-car Komuter train set derailed at the end of the track at Platform 4 of Butterworth station early this morning.

In a statement, KTMB said the train, identified as set SCS03, was not carrying any passengers at the time of the incident.

“No injuries or fatalities were reported in the 6.01am incident,” the statement said.

“The KTMB technical team arrived at the location immediately after the incident, and work to remove the train set is underway to ensure the safety of the area and smooth operations at the station.

“Passengers at Butterworth station are advised to comply with all safety instructions given by station staff to ensure smooth movement and safety of all parties,” the company added.

KTMB said further investigations are being carried out to determine the exact cause of the derailment and that updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

The company reaffirmed that operational and passenger safety remains its top priority and assured that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure train services continue running smoothly as usual. - November 8, 2025
