THE atmosphere on the second day of the Parti Amanah Negara annual convention turned tense when several delegates demanded that the motion relating to the party election scheduled to be held next year be debated immediately.
Less than an hour after the session began, about three delegates came to the microphone to voice their dissatisfaction with the leadership's decision not to allow the motion to be discussed.
“Sit down, sit down,” said the conference chairman, Azhar Abdul Shukur, repeatedly in an attempt to calm the situation.
However, after continued insistence, Azhar finally allowed two delegates to present their respective proposals regarding the party election.
The situation became tense again when an argument broke out.
“We want it to be debated, not just proposed,” shouted one of the delegates.
The dispute saw two opposing factions as one delegate suggested that the party elections be postponed until after 2026, while the other wanted them to continue as scheduled.
In the chaos, one delegate was seen being taken out by members of Skuad Arif, Amanah's volunteer team.
At that time, another delegate approached and pushed the individual before the volunteers acted to break up the situation.
Following the incident, Azhar ordered that the meeting continue with other motions that had been accepted for debate.
The first motion discussed later was a proposal to raise the age limit for the young women's wing of Amanah from 35 to 40 years.
Yesterday, Amanah Vice President Datuk Mohd Hatta Ramli explained that the motion regarding the party election would not be debated in this convention because it was considered too early and not in line with the party's constitution which prohibits any decision being made prematurely. - November 9, 2025
