AMANAH Deputy President, Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa, described the act of Barisan Nasional (BN) sharing seats with Perikatan Nasional (PN) as a blatant 'stab' to a friend in the recent 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election (PRN).
Expressing regret over BN's attitude in Negeri Sembilan, he said BN's actions were seen as aimed at defeating the Unity Government in the state, which was formed together before the PRN.
"Pakatan Harapan (PH) must realise that the unity it hopes for with BN has been hijacked by the Malay-Islamic supremacy ambitions brought by PN, and for the sake of power, BN is willing to abandon the ambition of seeing Malaysia without prejudice and racial and religious hatred.
"This is a sign that PH will face a difficult task if PH is committed to leading Malaysia towards a political value that better guarantees the future of the country," he stressed in a statement.
The Negeri Sembilan state election, last Saturday, saw the ‘cooperation’ between BN and PN bear fruit when it managed to bag 25 seats with UMNO winning all 16 contested seats, followed by MCA (two seats), while PN, through PAS, won four seats) and Parti Wawasan Negara (three seats).
Mujahid described the BN-PN victory as an indication of the success of racial identity politics over the cross-race and cross-religious value politics brought by PH.
"Voters in Negeri Sembilan choose racial emotions and sentiments, rather than performance and achievements, as a benchmark for their support.
"While we respect the voters' choice, we also express concern that parties that carry a narrow racial and religious identity political narrative have the potential to bring risks to the political atmosphere, becoming increasingly tense.
"Distrust and hatred between races and religions will continue to widen, thus affecting the stability and unity that are the keys to the country's prosperity," he said.
He claimed that the political message to the people became more confused when BN, which is part of the Unity Government, colluded with the opposition from PN but used their positions as ministers and other official positions to campaign in Negeri Sembilan.
"Will there be a realignment to win over the politics of values over the politics of race?
"PH must reflect and find its weaknesses, in addition to building new strengths to mobilise momentum to face the upcoming general election (GE)," he said. – August 3, 2026
