A 64-YEAR-OLD lorry driver was killed after his container truck veered off the North-South Expressway (PLUS) northbound and caught fire in the early hours of this morning.

Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah, Acting Deputy Director of Operations at the Perak Fire and Rescue Department, said teams from the Kuala Kangsar and Meru Raya stations rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 3.19am.

“The fire involved a refrigerated container carrying vegetables, which is believed to have skidded to the roadside before igniting. The victim was confirmed dead at the scene by investigators from the Kuala Kangsar District Police Headquarters due to the severe burns,” she said in a statement.

Shazlean added that the victim’s body was handed over to police for further action and that the operation was concluded at 5.07am. - November 12, 2025
