A POLICE constable was injured when his motorcycle lost control after being pinned by a car driven by a drunk motorist in Lorong Bercham 1 last night.

Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, said the incident occurred at around 10.40pm, leaving the 24-year-old officer with minor injuries, while the 60-year-old driver escaped unharmed.

He explained that the suspect, driving a Honda CRV from the direction of Bercham Police Station towards downtown Ipoh, was stopped by the constable at a traffic light intersection.

“The suspect then fled by turning into Lorong Bercham 1, prompting the officer to follow him until the vehicle suddenly pinned the motorcycle, causing it to skid and crash,” Abang Zainal said.

The injured constable was rushed to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun for treatment.

The suspect, a resident of Sungai Petani, Kedah, was later arrested. A breathalyser test at the Ipoh Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division revealed an alcohol level of 200mg per 100ml of blood, exceeding the legal limit.

The case is being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. - November 14, 2025
