THE Johor Bahru Utara police district has recorded the seizure of 81.44 kilograms of drugs valued at nearly RM9.7 million, alongside the confiscation of assets worth RM1.83 million, in operations conducted between 1 January and 31 October this year.
Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh Mahinder Singh, District Police Chief of Johor Bahru Utara, described the period as one of the largest anti-narcotics operations undertaken in the region. “
A total of 1,825 individuals were arrested for various drug offences during this period. Police also apprehended 62 repeat offenders under Section 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, a move seen as highly effective in preventing recidivism,” he said.
He added that the Commercial Crime Investigation Division recorded a significant surge in investigations, opening 555 new case files, up from 176 in 2024.
“This increase demonstrates our focus on tackling commercial crimes alongside traditional narcotics enforcement,” Balveer Singh said during a special assembly at Dewan MBIP, held to mark his promotion.
He now assumes the role of Commander of the Northern Brigade of the General Operations Force (PGA) in Ulu Kinta, Perak, with the rank of Senior Assistant Commissioner.
The police district also reported a one per cent decline in overall crime, with 465 cases recorded compared with 472 previously.
“This achievement is not merely a statistic but reflects the effectiveness of the new approach we have implemented since last year, based on crime pattern analysis and suspect profiling. A 47 per cent reduction in crime reports is among the most significant accomplishments arising from strategic planning with our partner agencies since July last year,” he said. - November 14, 2025
