Ministry clarifies Genting Highlands access road is privately owned
The safety and regulatory oversight lies under the jurisdiction of the Pahang state government - November 14, 2025

THE Ministry of Works (KKR) has clarified that the access road leading into Genting Highlands is not a federal road but instead lies on private land.

Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, the Minister of Works, responded to growing public concern over the issue, stating that KKR acknowledges the matter but does not have jurisdiction over the road.

"According to our initial review and the information received, the road in question is not a federal road but is located on private land," he explained.

"However, the safety standards, technical specifications, and regulatory compliance for such a route fall under the authority of the Pahang state government, specifically the Bentong Municipal Council."

He further noted that, as the road is not under federal jurisdiction, KKR has no legal or regulatory power over the private road.

Earlier, Genting Malaysia Bhd confirmed that a toll will be introduced for vehicles accessing the Genting Highlands road, with further details to be announced soon.

The company explained that the toll is necessary due to the costs of maintaining the 24-kilometre stretch of road and its steep terrain, a burden Genting Malaysia has shouldered since the 1960s. November 14, 2025
