A YOUNG police constable lost his life after his motorcycle collided with a lorry making a U-turn in Sanglang yesterday evening.

The victim, 23-year-old Mohamad Amirul Safwan Shahbani from Rembau, Negri Sembilan, was returning home from duty at the Air Hitam police station when the fatal crash occurred.

He suffered grave injuries to his left leg and arm, in addition to internal trauma, and died while receiving emergency treatment at Jitra Hospital.

Kubang Pasu police chief Superintendent Mohd Radzi Abdul Rahim said early findings suggest the lorry, driven by a 70-year-old man, had entered from the roadside before moving right to execute a U-turn.

“The victim, who was travelling towards Sanglang, could not avoid the lorry, leading to a crash,” he said when contacted. The lorry driver escaped unharmed.

The incident is now being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, an offence that carries a penalty of up to ten years’ imprisonment and a fine of as much as RM50,000. - November 18, 2025
