Sarawak Government prioritises public service transformation and digital governance
Initiative includes harmonisation of civil servant salaries, to ensure more efficient and effective governance - November 20, 2025

THE Sarawak state government has pledged to continue prioritising the transformation of both state and federal public services, including the harmonisation of civil servant salaries, to ensure more efficient and effective governance.

Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the state’s public service is increasingly prepared to embrace a wide range of ongoing reforms, particularly in the areas of digitalisation and governance enhancement.

“At the Sarawak level, our public service can adapt to the transformation we are undertaking, especially in terms of digitalisation and managing their respective departments within the allocated budgets.

“This means there are no issues, so in my view, these two sectors are very important as we transform our administration and now aim for an efficient government,” he said.

Abang Johari highlighted the effectiveness of both Sarawak and federal public service machinery in implementing state development policies, as well as their critical role in the education and healthcare sectors.

He emphasised that collaboration in addressing underperforming schools and enhancing healthcare facilities forms a key foundation for strengthening administrative transformation.

He added that the state government is now focusing on implementing the “efficient government” concept to boost administrative efficiency and sustainability, in line with accelerated digital transformation initiatives.

Commenting on the harmonisation of Sarawak civil service salaries, Abang Johari stressed that any adjustments will be made in accordance with current needs and the state’s financial capacity, consistent with the implementation of the Sarawak Public Service Remuneration System (SSPAS). -November 20, 2025
