DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has called for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to remain prime minister until the end of the parliamentary term, saying the remaining 15 months should be used to deliver key reform commitments.
Loke, who is also Seremban MP, said Anwar continued to command the support of a majority of MPs and there was therefore no need for Parliament to be dissolved ahead of schedule.
He said the Government should focus on implementing agreed reforms, including constitutional amendments to separate the roles of the Attorney-General and Public Prosecutor and to limit the prime minister’s tenure to two terms or 10 years.
“Several constitutional amendments have been agreed at Cabinet level, including the separation of the Attorney-General and Public Prosecutor, which has been brought to Parliament and gone through the Special Select Committee process.
“The reform agenda to limit the Prime Minister’s tenure to two terms or 10 years has also been agreed at Cabinet level and has even been brought to Parliament,” he said.
Loke said these two reforms, together with the tabling of Budget 2027, should be among the Government’s main priorities during the next parliamentary sitting.
“So, these are two major matters that should be the Government’s focus in the upcoming Parliament sitting, apart from the tabling of Budget 2027,” he said.
