THE government has assured that essential supplies remain sufficient across all states affected by the ongoing monsoon floods, with no reported disruptions to the distribution of basic necessities.
Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Senator Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh, said the ministry had proactively authorised 2,102 wholesalers, manufacturers and retailers to hold up to 30 per cent additional stock of controlled items to prevent shortages.
“So far, no flood-affected state has experienced a break in supply of essential goods,” she said. “I am informed that we have opened emergency operations rooms immediately in the affected states. Therefore, these states have operations rooms so we can know if there is any supply disruption anywhere.”
She explained that the mechanism ensures swift intervention.
“For example, if there is a shortage of basic goods such as sugar or cooking oil, the operations room will ensure those supplies reach the affected locations,” she told reporters after officiating the ASEAN E-Commerce Conference 2025 today.
Also present were the ministry’s Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Mohd Sayuthi Bakar, and the President of the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI), Christina Tee.
As of this morning, the number of flood evacuees nationwide has risen to 10,460 people across eight states, with Kelantan the worst hit.
According to the latest data from the Social Welfare Department’s Info Bencana portal, 8,235 victims have been placed in 33 temporary evacuation centres in the state.
Other affected states include Terengganu, Perak, Kedah, Perlis, Penang, Selangor and Sarawak. Authorities continue to monitor weather developments and river levels in high-risk areas while advising the public to remain vigilant and comply with official safety instructions. - November 24, 2025
