YOUNG voters will play a major role in determining the outcome of the 17th Sabah State Election (PRN).

PAS Election Director for the Sabah PRN, Tan Sri Annuar Musa, said this was the result of his meetings with groups at several locations around Kota Kinabalu, including Kampung Gentisan Karambunai and Teluk Likas.

According to him, the interaction with the youth, which was casual but meaningful, gave a clear picture that they would play a major role in determining the political direction of the state.

“I am confident that the youth will be the real determinants of the outcome of this PRN,” he said on Facebook today.

Annuar, who is also the Chairman of Muafakat, explained that the political choices of the youth will determine whether the status quo is maintained or there will be major changes in the administrative landscape of Sabah.

“If they follow the status quo and just go along with the ‘establishment’, then the government party will profit,” he said.

However, he believes that the situation can change if young people choose to express a firm stance on the issue of corruption and injustice as has been expressed through several previous movements.

"If they express a wave like 'Justice for Zara' and like the 'youth hate corruption' movement, Sabah will see a big change, and will even trigger a bigger symbolic national wave with the rejection of the Madani PH BN GRS government," he said.

Meanwhile, Annuar also described Sabah as a 'land under the wind' which is now at the crossroads between change and the continuity of existing politics.

"Sabah, the land under the wind. Will the wind grow into a political hurricane, or will it just blow gently and bring a comfortable atmosphere to continue sleeping and being lulled by dreams..." he said.

The EC has set November 25 for early voting while November 29 as polling day.

According to EC statistics, a total of 1,784,843 voters consisting of 1,760,417 ordinary voters, 11,697 military personnel and their spouses and 12,729 police personnel and their spouses are eligible to carry out their responsibilities in this election. – November 24, 2025
