MILLIONS of Malaysians will be entitled to a higher monthly subsidised fuel allocation from September 1, when the Government restores the basic BUDI MADANI limit from 200 litres to 300 litres.
But not every recipient will receive the same amount.
Here is how the revised entitlement works and who can qualify for the maximum 400-litre monthly allocation.
BUDI95: 300 litres
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) on Monday, Malaysian citizens with a MyKad and an active driving licence will be eligible for up to 300 litres of subsidised RON95 a month.
The entitlement is automatically increased from 200 litres in August.
BUDI95 and BUDI Diesel: 300 litres
Malaysians who meet the BUDI95 requirements and own a privately registered diesel vehicle may also qualify for BUDI Diesel.
To qualify, the vehicle must have a valid Motor Vehicle Licence (road tax) and meet the requirements under the BUDI Diesel scheme.
Their basic monthly entitlement will be 300 litres from September 1, compared with 200 litres in August.
Pickup and 4WD owners: up to 400 litres
Eligible owners of privately owned diesel pickup trucks and four-wheel-drive vehicles can receive an additional 100 litres a month.
This means their total monthly entitlement can rise from the basic 300 litres to 400 litres.
More than 500,000 eligible pickup and four-wheel-drive owners can apply for the additional 100 litres if they have not already done so.
All applications can be submitted through the BUDI MADANI portal, MOF says.
Those who have already been approved for the additional allocation do not need to apply again. Their entitlement will automatically be increased to 400 litres from September 1.
How Many Malaysians Are Covered?
MOF said about 16 million users currently benefit from subsidised RON95 at RM1.99 a litre with more than 700,000 users eligible for subsidised diesel at RM2.10 a litre.
Why Is The Quota Being Increased?
The Ministry said the restoration of the 300-litre basic entitlement takes into account improved fuel supply management, stronger enforcement, Malaysia’s solid economic performance and the Government’s financial capacity.
It also reflects the needs of Malaysians who travel long distances for their daily activities and small traders who rely on vehicles to earn a living.
The increase, however, does not mean the Government is abandoning targeted subsidies.
The MADANI Government said it would continue efforts to prevent subsidy leakage, smuggling and misuse while ensuring subsidised fuel reaches eligible Malaysians.
What Changes for Motorists?
For eligible BUDI MADANI recipients, the immediate change is straightforward: the monthly basic fuel allocation rises by 100 litres from September 1.
For eligible diesel pickup and four-wheel-drive owners who qualify for the additional allocation, the maximum rises to 400 litres a month.
The higher entitlement will be applied automatically to existing eligible recipients, while those who have not yet secured the additional 100 litres for qualifying pickup and 4WD vehicles will need to apply through the BUDI MADANI portal.
