BARISAN Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Mohamad Alamin fulfilled his voting responsibilities for Sabah’s 17th State Election today at SK Our Lady of Fatima.
The Deputy Foreign Minister arrived at the polling centre at 9:40am and cast his vote at the second voting stream.
Mohamad Alamin, who is also the Member of Parliament for Kimanis, faces a tough contest in the Bongawan state seat.
Among his strongest challengers is former Foreign Minister Tan Sri Anifah Aman, representing Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
He is also competing against incumbent Dr Daud Yusof of Warisan, who defeated Anifah in the 2020 state election with a majority of 1,802 votes.
The Bongawan race features a crowded field of contenders, including Dolores Michael (STAR), Ridzuan Firdaus (Perikatan Nasional), Royston Adven (Parti Impian Sabah), Md Haris Md Tahir (Independent – key symbol), Peter Matinjal (KDM), and Hussin Dasar (Parti Perpaduan Rakyat Sabah).
Despite heavy rain since early morning, voters were seen turning up steadily at polling centres to carry out their civic duty.
Bongawan, located about 77 kilometres from Kota Kinabalu under the Kimanis parliamentary constituency, has a total of 24,019 registered voters.
The Election Commission has reported that voter turnout at 10.14 per cent as of 9.00am.
Based on the Commission’s hourly update, this figure reflects the participation of approximately 10 per cent of the 1.7 million eligible voters.
In addition, early voting conducted on Wednesday recorded a turnout of 92.5 per cent, with 17,615 early voters casting their ballots. – November 29, 2025
