TAPAH Member of Parliament Datuk Seri M. Saravanan called on the government to set up an independent commission to investigate the deaths of three young men shot in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, on 24 November 2025.
Saravanan expressed his condolences to the families of the victims while commending the Bukit Aman Police Headquarters, particularly the Criminal Investigation Department, for forming a federal special task force to handle the case.
“First of all, I would like to record my appreciation to the Bukit Aman Police Headquarters, especially the Criminal Investigation Department. The decision to establish a federal special task force is a proper and responsible step to ensure this case is handled with professionalism, transparency and integrity,” he said, in a letter address to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today.
However, Saravanan stressed that the concerns raised by the victims’ families and their lawyers must not be ignored.
He highlighted that an audio recording, which reportedly contradicts initial police claims that officers acted in self-defence, raises serious questions requiring a thorough and independent investigation.
“The evidence, together with all the facts, must be carefully evaluated to uncover the truth about what actually happened that night,” he said.
Emphasising the need for public confidence in law enforcement, Saravanan insisted that investigations into deaths involving police officers must be impartial, transparent, and free from conflicts of interest.
“We are not blaming the police as a whole. This is about preserving institutional integrity, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring justice is served,” he said.
He urged the Prime Minister to establish a commission empowered to examine all evidence, including forensic findings, audio recordings, and standard operating procedures, and to publicly disclose the results.
Saravanan also called for the immediate suspension of any officers directly involved or suspected of concealing the truth.
“Malaysia must remain a nation where truth is not hidden, justice is not delayed, and accountability is not selective. Justice must be upheld not because it is demanded by one community, but because it is the right of every Malaysian, grounded in principle, national dignity, and conscience,” he said. -December 4, 2025
