TWO elected representatives in Penang have appealed for calm and patience from road users commuting between Tanjung Bungah and Batu Ferringhi due to the roadworks needed to maintain safety along the only route linking the two locations.
The road closure means that there is only one lane near the Batu Ferringhi stretch of the Moonlight Bay before the tourism belt area.
State executive councillor in charge of roadworks Zairil Khir Johari sought patience among road users, citing that the road works were inevitable due to the need to ensure safety for commuters through the area.
A social media posting has gone viral of a woman pleading for faster intervention from state officials, naming Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Zairil and Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Abdul Rashid.
The female voice claims that her school bound child cannot depend of ride sharing services because many Grab service providers refuse to traverse there due to the severe congestion and traders are suffering from poor business.
Zairil said that the roadworks described as a soil nailing process, is expected to last until year – end.
Syerleena took to social media to also apologise and said that the contractors were instructed to hasten their work to reduce the inconvenience.
This is the second viral incident along the narrow and winding stretch from the affluent neighbourhood of Tanjung Bungah to Batu Ferringhi.
Earlier this week, Deputy Chief Minister II Jagdeep Singh Deo exchanged words with contractors for taking a while to trim trees until residents at the Mount Pleasure faced difficulty leaving their residences as the access road was temporarily blocked. - December 7, 2025.
