POLICE have extended the bail of film director and singer Namewee for a further month, from last Thursday until Jan 11, as investigations continue into the death of a Taiwanese social media influencer linked to the case.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the extension was necessary as investigators are still awaiting a full toxicology report related to the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yun Hsin, 33, a process that typically takes around three months to complete.

“This case is still under investigation and the police are still waiting for the toxicology report as mentioned, which takes several months to be finalised,” he said.

“We are extending his bail while waiting for the results from the Chemistry Department, and if the report is still not obtained, the bail will be extended again.”

Fadil was speaking after the launch of the Amanita Adopted Park 2025 at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters in the Seri Alam Phase 2 People’s Housing Project here.

On Nov 26, media reports said Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, 42, had his police bail extended by two weeks while investigations into the influencer’s death were ongoing. He had earlier been released on police bail pending the post-mortem findings.

The investigation papers involving Namewee were previously expected to be resubmitted to the state public prosecutor after the post-mortem report was obtained.

Last month, Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar was quoted as saying that Namewee was released on bail as there was no strong indication linking him directly to the cause of death of the Taiwanese influencer, who was reported to be 31 at the time.

Commenting separately on the Amanita Adopted Park initiative, Fadil said the facility serves as a recreational space as well as a platform to foster closer ties between the police and the community.

“As part of this initiative, an Amanita cabin has been placed in the area, which functions as an Amanita PDRM ‘pit stop’,” he said. “We believe safety is a shared responsibility, and this approach can bring the community closer to the police, while building stronger trust and mutual understanding.” - December 13, 2025
