Toll rates freeze on 10 major highways in 2026, Govt to absorb RM591 million cost
Putrajaya set to absorb more than RM590 million in compensation to concessionaires, Works Minister says - December 19, 2025

THE government will keep toll charges unchanged in 2026 on 10 major highways across the country as part of efforts to protect public welfare and ease cost-of-living pressures, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has announced.

He said the decision covered the Cheras–Kajang Highway, the Kuala Lumpur–Kuala Selangor Expressway, the New North Klang Straits Bypass, the Senai–Desaru Expressway and the East Coast Expressway Phase Two.

The toll freeze also applies to the South Klang Valley Expressway, the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah Bridge, the Duta–Ulu Kelang Expressway, the Kuala Lumpur–Putrajaya Expressway and the Butterworth Outer Ring Road.

“This decision is in line with the announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on July 23 under the Appreciation for the Malaysian People announcement, where the government agreed that the public should continue to enjoy existing toll rates without any increase.

“This matter was subsequently agreed to retrospectively at yesterday’s Cabinet meeting to ensure continuity in the implementation of the toll rates,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Alexander said the move demonstrated the government’s commitment to easing the burden of rising living costs, particularly for highway users, by ensuring there would be no toll hikes throughout the coming year.

He acknowledged that the decision carried significant financial implications for the government, with compensation to highway concessionaires estimated at RM591.56 million for 2026.

“Despite the substantial financial impact, the government has chosen to prioritise the interests of the people,” he said.

“This allocation reflects the MADANI government’s commitment to safeguarding the well-being and welfare of the rakyat, while ensuring inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

“The Works Ministry will continue to work with all stakeholders to ensure that the management of the nation’s highways remains sustainable, efficient and aligned with the MADANI government’s people-first aspirations,” he added. - December 19, 2025
