POLICE have ruled out any criminal element in the case of a woman whose body was found floating in the Gombak River near a condominium on Jalan Ipoh in Kuala Lumpur last Thursday
Sentul District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari, confirmed that the body of the 36-year-old local woman had been claimed by her family.
“The cause of death was drowning, and at this stage, there is no indication of criminal activity in this case. The police have recorded four statements, including one from the victim’s mother,” he said on Sunday.
Earlier reports indicated that the police received notification of the discovery at 11.37 a.m., after a body was spotted floating in the river.
Initial investigations revealed that the woman was unemployed and resided in the Chow Kit area of Kuala Lumpur. She had been reported missing on 17 December and had not returned home until her body was recovered.
Further police inquiries suggested that the victim had no underlying health conditions but was believed to have been suffering from depression following the incarceration of her boyfriend in connection with a drug-related offence.
Authorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and supportive of individuals who may be experiencing mental health difficulties, noting that cases such as this highlight the importance of community awareness and early intervention. - December 21, 2025
