PENANG’S corporate sector and non-governmental organisations have been urged to play a more active role in supporting the welfare of the elderly, with Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow emphasising the value of community inclusivity. He said such initiatives could be executed through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes.
“Initiatives like these ensure that senior citizens do not feel marginalised but remain an integral part of society,” Chow said during his speech at the Charity With Love Fun Run, held to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Silver Jubilee Elderly Care Home.
The charity run successfully raised over RM400,000, funds which will be directed towards sustaining the home’s operations.
The money is earmarked for essential expenses including food and medical care, aimed at enhancing the quality of life for the residents.
Chow encouraged CSR participation in various forms, stating, “We welcome CSR efforts here, whether through cash donations, provision of basic necessities, or voluntary contributions such as community cleaning projects.”
In a separate statement posted on his official Facebook page, Chow highlighted that the strong participation and fundraising outcomes from the event reflect the enduring concern and social responsibility of Penang’s residents.
He added that such efforts align with the state’s Penang2030 vision of fostering an inclusive, people-centric society. - December 21, 2025
