‘I was asked to sign statutory declaration to withdraw support for Menteri Besar’ - PAS youth
Haziq Asyraf Dun turns down the move after seeking guidance from party leadership - December 28, 2025

THE Perlis PAS Youth chief, Haziq Asyraf Dun, has revealed that he was among the state assembly members invited to sign a statutory declaration to withdraw support for Mohd Shukri Ramli as Menteri Besar, but said he rejected the move after seeking guidance from party leadership.

Haziq Asyraf, who is also the Beseri state assemblyman, claimed that the invitation was conveyed by an individual acting as a “broker”.

He said that as an elected representative of PAS, it was his duty to observe party ethics and principles by referring the matter to both the central and state leadership before taking any action.

“After obtaining advice, I did not attend and was not involved, because the invitation was not made officially,” he said in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Saturday.

Last Wednesday, the PAS Central Committee decided that the party membership of three of its state assembly members would be terminated with immediate effect after they signed statutory declarations withdrawing support for Mohd Shukri, who is also the Sanglang assemblyman.

The three assembly members are Saad Seman of Chuping, Fakhrul Anwar Ismail of Bintong, and Mohd Ridzuan Hashim of Guar Sanji. Following the party’s decision, Perlis State Assembly Speaker Rus’sele Eizan declared unexpected vacancies in the three seats.

Mohd Shukri later announced his voluntary resignation as Perlis Menteri Besar on health grounds, effective last Thursday.

Commenting further, Haziq Asyraf described the action of the three PAS assembly members in signing the statutory declarations without the knowledge or consent of the party as a clear act of betrayal that should not be further debated. He said that had they informed the party about the existence of such efforts, he was confident the PAS central leadership would not have taken disciplinary action.

He added that space for discussion and reconciliation would have remained wide open to resolve any internal issues had the statutory declarations not been signed.

“However, the action of the three assembly members, who acted behind the party’s back and chose their own path by signing the statutory declarations, has crossed the boundaries of collective discipline,” he said.

Haziq Asyraf said the action taken against the three assembly members should serve as an important lesson for all PAS members, not only in Perlis but nationwide.

“This firmness by PAS will also restore public confidence in the party as one that is principled and disciplined, particularly in ensuring that the stability of the Perlis state government continues to be safeguarded.

“What is most important is maintaining the people’s confidence in PAS,” he said.

He added that the PAS central leadership had made a very appropriate decision through a fair and transparent process, including giving the three assembly members the opportunity to be questioned directly.

“I myself was present at the meeting as a witness. If there are still parties attempting to raise alleged shortcomings of the former Menteri Besar during his time as Perlis PAS commissioner as the cause of this issue, the question is why continue to raise it when the PAS central leadership has already made leadership changes?

“The state PAS commissioner has been replaced, and even the proposal by members of the state liaison committee not to appoint Mohd Shukri as deputy commissioner was considered and implemented by the Perlis PAS commissioner,” he said. - December 28, 2025
