AN estimated 3.2 tonnes of rubbish in Bukit Bintang, Dataran Merdeka and around the Petronas Twin Towers KLCC was collected by Alam Flora Sdn Bhd (Alam Flora) after the 2026 New Year's Eve celebration.

The amount recorded a year-on-year reduction compared to the 3.6 tonnes recorded in 2025, which is about 11 per cent.

Alam Flora Chief Executive Officer, Shariman Yusuf Mohamed Zain said the cleaning operation began at 10pm on New Year's Eve and ended at 8am Thursday, to ensure the city is clean again.

"KLCC recorded the highest amount of rubbish collection at 1.4 tonnes, followed by a tonne in Bukit Bintang and 0.8 tonnes in Dataran Merdeka.

"To ensure smooth operations, a total of 152 workers were mobilized, including management staff, pre-cleaning teams, drivers and general workers at these three main locations," he said in a statement on Thursday.

Shariman Yusuf also said that three units of compactor trucks were used to support solid waste collection operations as well as high-pressure water jets to clean sidewalks, especially in crowded areas.

He added that 36 units of mobile garbage bins with a capacity of 660 litres and 25 units with a capacity of 240 litres were placed in strategic locations to facilitate more organized garbage disposal efforts.

"This year's garbage collection is generally under control, especially in Bukit Bintang. “The number of public attendances at each location varied, depending on their choice to gather to celebrate the celebration.

"Despite this, Alam Flora remains committed to ensuring a clean and healthy environment during every celebration so that Kuala Lumpur continues to stand out as a vibrant and livable city," he said. – January 1, 2026
