BERSATU President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin stressed that the party remains a principled, consistent and loyal partner in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) though he is no longer leading the coalition.

Muhyiddin, who is no longer the PN Chairman, effective yesterday, said cooperation between parties in PN will continue to be maintained to ensure the stability and strength of the coalition.

"In facing current challenges, our priority is to ensure the survival, strength and future of the party.

"There are times when we need to take a step back, not as a sign of weakness but as a strategic step to strengthen the foundation, organise the leadership line and build a more structured and sustainable party strength," he said via Facebook, today.

Last Tuesday, Muhyiddin officially announced his resignation as PN Chairman effective yesterday - January 1, 2026, after five years at the helm of the coalition, following the political crisis in Perlis.

Following his action, four senior PN leaders also announced their resignations, including PN Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, who is also Selangor PN Chairman.

In addition, Negeri Sembilan PN Chairman Mohamad Hanifah Abu Baker; Johor PN Chairman Dr Sahruddin Jamal and Perak PN Chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu also resigned.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin called on all Bersatu members to strengthen cooperation, unity and close all gaps in the party.

"I would like to emphasize that I am still leading the Bersatu leadership as President.

"I want all BERSATU members to remain steadfast, disciplined and uphold a culture of mutual respect and resolve any differences prudently, maturely and privately in the interests of the party," he said. – January 2, 2026
