THE position of UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh within both the party and government will be formally announced at the UMNO Annual General Assembly (PAU 2025), scheduled for next week, he confirmed on Saturday.

In a post on his official Facebook account, Dr Muhamad Akmal explained that the announcement will follow his presentation of grassroots views collected from party branches and divisions, reflecting the aspirations and concerns of ordinary members.

“We have already voiced the public’s concerns at the UMNO Youth Special Convention on January 3, listening directly to the grievances and hopes of the people,” he said.

“Insya-Allah, we will continue to raise these voices at the PAU, bringing the perspectives of the grassroots through branches and divisions. Insya-Allah, my position within the party and government will also be announced at the PAU next week. Who are we without the people who lift us today?” he added.

Local media reports previously indicated that Dr Muhamad Akmal had expressed his intention to step down from his roles as UMNO Youth Chief and Merlimau State Assemblyman.

According to sources close to UMNO, he shared this decision with a group of youth leaders via WhatsApp on Thursday.

Dr Muhamad Akmal also urged party leaders to speak boldly and truthfully, stressing that leadership should be guided not by rank or position but by responsibility to the people.

“For the unity of our religion and nation, never be afraid to speak the truth. Leadership is not because of our title or rank, but because of the people we serve,” he said. - January 10, 2026
