Parents are urged to support their children with guidance and prayer, Anwar says - January 12, 2026

PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has wished students a smooth return to school as the 2026 academic session commences, with particular encouragement for those beginning Year 1, marking their first step into formal education.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Anwar emphasised the crucial role of parents in accompanying their children’s educational journey.

He highlighted the importance of providing both guidance and moral example alongside spiritual support.

“Happy return to school to all children, especially Year 1 pupils who are taking their first steps into schooling, full of aspirations and hopes. To parents, accompany your children with prayers and good examples.

“May every lesson and value learned shape them into individuals of knowledge and character, contributing to the nation’s future, God willing,” he wrote.

The Prime Minister’s message coincides with the resumption of the academic calendar for national and government-aided schools, which has returned to January start dates following adjustments during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Across Malaysia, the school schedule is divided into two groups. Group B, covering Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Sarawak, Selangor, and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya, commenced classes today.

Group A, including Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu, began the school year yesterday.

The Prime Minister’s greeting underscores the government’s focus on nurturing both academic and character development in students, reinforcing the shared responsibility of families and schools in shaping the next generation. - January 12, 2026
